Dental Sealant Program
Since 2002, Healthy Connection, has offered dental sealants to every second (2nd) and sixth (6th) grader in Polk County and provided oral cancer screenings to area high school students. In the first year of the Dental Sealant program, 3% of the children participating required emergency dental care. By 2007, this number had drastically decreased to 0.3%!
This experience is often the child’s first trip to the dentist so the Healthy Connection team blocks off a full day of regular patient care and engages help from the entire staff to provide a fun atmosphere where the children are taught the proper techniques in brushing and the benefits of oral health habits.

In February of every year, the Mena Clinic collaborates with the University of Arkansas Fort Smith Dental Hygiene School to provide sealants to 2nd and 6th graders from all area schools. This outreach has helped provide sealants to many children who otherwise would not have received them.
