S.N.A.P program (formerly Food Stamps)
The Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program is a way to help supplement nutrition, and help provide healthy food to clients with low incomes.
The program is funded by the U.S Department of Agriculture. If a client has low income and qualifies for SNAP, the amount of benefits will vary depending on size of household, income, expenses and other resources. Transitional Employment Assistance (TEA) Program
The TEA program helps economically needy families with children under the age of 18 become more responsible for their own Support and less dependent on public assistance. The TEA program provides monthly cash assistance to eligible families to help meet the family’s basic needs as well as supportive services, such as childcare assistance and employment related services, while a parent or other adult relative works toward increasing his or her earning potential. State law limits the receipt of TEA benefits to a lifetime limit of 24 months. TEA cash assistance is available to help meet the needs of children who are being cared for by a non-parent adult relative. Assistance to such relatives is not time limited.
Services
The above categories are an overview of services provided by DHS/DCO. Of course, each is much more in depth and each case must be looked at on a case-by-case basis. I will be glad to have appointment times set up to talk with clients about the programs. Some programs, like Arkids, will not need an interview; however, programs such as S.N.A.P will require an interview. Also, applications for Arkids are available online, www.arkidsfirst.com, and SNAP applications will soon be available online.
