Cookout Held to Honor CASA Volunteers
On July 14th, a cookout was held in appreciation of the Ouachita CASA Volunteers.
The CASA Program would not be able to accomplish all that it does for children accross the county, the state, and the nation, if not for the service of the many volunteers.
All CASA volunteers are required to undergo training before they are able to serve fully in the CASA Program. This training, continuation training, and the volunteering itself is a sacrifice for anyone and the program greatly appreciates all those who have made this sacrifice (and continue to do so) for the Children of the Ouachita region and Arkansas as a whole.
If you are interested in volunteering with CASA, please contact Cindi Herandez, CASA Program Manager, at 479-243-0279 or casa_mena@healthy-connections.org.

4 out of 5 Car Seats Are Used Wrong
(National Safe Kids Campaign)
Could Yours Be One of Them?
Before You Hit the Road, Read this: Take the time to be sure your child is riding safely. Read and follow your vehicle owner's manual and child safety seat instructions.
- Never put a rear facing child in a front seat with an active frontal air bag. A back seat is generally the safest place for kids of any age.
- Choose the right child safety seat or safety belt for your child's size and age.
- Send in the child safety registration card to be notified in case it is recalled. If you have questions about recalls, call the manufacturer, visit www.nhtsa.dot.gov, or call 888-DASH-2-DOT.
- Use the correct child safety seat belt path or LATCH system.
- Check your vehicle and child safety seat instructions to see how to lock you child safety seat in place and if you need any special installation hardware.
- Get a tight fit-an installed child safety seat should not move more than one inch from side to side or toward the front of the vehicle.
- Make sure you child is snugly secured by the safety seat harnesses or safety belt, according to manufacturer's instructions.
- Replace any child safety seat that has been involved in a crash.
For information about how to get your child's seat checked for safety contact Healthy Connections at 479-243-0279.
